The world's first net-positive-energy restaurant. Produce drawn from the rooftop edible garden, served under floor-to-ceiling glass with views of the orchid conservatory and Sarasota Bay.
The Green Orchid occupies the upper level of the LEAF Building — Living Energy Access Facility — at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The building generates more energy than it consumes across the year, and the kitchen sources from a rooftop edible garden directly above the dining room.
Michael's On East is the exclusive dining and catering operator for Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The Green Orchid is the flagship of that partnership: a garden-to-table menu built around what the rooftop garden delivers each morning, refined for the same Four-Diamond service standard as the East Avenue room.
Designed by Overland Partners, the LEAF Building is the first new construction at Selby Gardens in decades — a glass-walled pavilion built to net-positive-energy standard, with the Green Orchid restaurant on the upper floor and the welcome center, classrooms, and conservatory amenities on the levels below.
From your table you look out over the historic orchid conservatory, the banyan grove, and Sarasota Bay. Through the western windows, the gardens themselves. Through the eastern, the city of Sarasota across the water.
Plan your visit at Selby.org →Edible plantings on the roof above the dining room — herbs, microgreens, tomatoes, peppers, fruit — harvested for the kitchen each morning.
Three walls of the dining room are glass, framing the orchid conservatory, the banyan canopy, and Sarasota Bay beyond.
The Gulf seafood program runs through the same Sarasota and Cortez network the East Avenue kitchen uses — same-day catch when the boats come in.
Wine by the glass and by the bottle from the Wine Cellar list — sommelier on the floor at lunch.

Michael's On East is the exclusive dining operator and event caterer at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The Green Orchid is one of the two restaurant destinations on the eight-acre campus.
The other is the Selby House Café, a quick-casual stop in the historic Selby residence — sandwiches, salads, pastries, beer and wine, served on the veranda under the banyan canopy.
Both share the kitchen team, sourcing program, and service standard of the East Avenue room.
